Snyder, Leighton G., 87, of Akron, Erie Co., New York died February 3, 2018 peacefully in a Sarasota, FL hospital from complications following a stroke.

He was born August 22, 1930 at St. Jacobs, Ontario, Canada to David and Barbara S. (Gingrich) Snyder. David was born August 22, 1897 and died February 7, 1941. Barbara was born January 3, 1900 and died October 16 1972.

On September 9, 1951 at Akron he was married to Arlene Wideman, who was born October 25, 1929 and survives, having a marriage of 66 years.

Surviving are children, Lorna and Mel Claassen; Luanne and Don Livingston; and Ron and Cheryl Snyder; eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

One grandchild, Heidi Claassen, and two brothers, Wayne Snyder and Melvin Snyder, preceded him in death.

He was a lifetime dairy farmer.

Memorial services were held February 17, 2018 at Clarence Center-Akron Mennonite Church, Akron, New York with burial in The Good Cemetary, Town of Clarence, Erie County, New York.

Sollenberger, J. Wilbur, 78, of Lititz, Lancaster Co., PA died January 27, 2018 at the same place. He was born October, 31, 1939 at Mountville, Lancaster Co., PA to Ivan and Emma Meck (Huber) Sollenberger. On March 7, 1959 he was married to Madeline Groff, who survives.

Surviving are children, J. Merle (Susan) Sollenberger; Gayle (Reuben) Smoker; and Lynelle (Jeffrey) Wenger; ten grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and siblings, Leroy (Mary Ann) Sollenberger; Glenn (Lois) Sollenberger; Doris Dellinger; Esther (Roy) Zimmerman; and Betty Hess Sollenberger (Sister-in-law).

Memorial services were held February 3, 2018 at Forest Hills Mennonite Church, Leola, Lancaster Co., PA with burial in Mellinger Mennonite Cemetery, Lancaster, Lancaster Co., PA.

Sommers, Joseph S.
June 20, 1972 - July 03, 2018

Joseph S. Sommers, 46, born in Shelbyville, TN on June 20, 1972 to Seth and Mable (Miller) Sommers. He peacefully passed away on July 3, 2018 at his son Jerry's home in Burlington Junction, MO after a courageous 6 ½ month battle with kidney failure.

He accepted Christ as his Saviour, was baptized in his youth and remained faithful till death. At the time of his passing he was a member of Mt. Moriah Mennonite Fellowship.

He was united in holy matrimony to Judith Marie Ulrich on September 24, 1993 in Mount Hermon, KY and enjoyed 24 beautiful years of wedded life.

He is survived by his wife Judith Sommers of Burlington Junction, MO; 8 sons and 6 daughters, Irvin Sommers and wife Jenny (Troyer) of Skidmore, MO, Jerry Sommers and wife Darlene (Byler) of Burlington Junction, MO, Lydia, Aden, Lois, Lanita, Mary, Nelson, Noah, Mabel, David, Miriam, Sylvan and Norman, all at home; 1 grandchild Travis; his mother, Mable Sommers; 9 brothers and 5 sisters, Noami and husband Dave Troyer of Mercer, KY, Philip Sommers and wife Lewana of Livingston, TN, Joanna and husband Jerry Williams (deceased) of Guthrie, KY, Daniel Sommers and wife Katie of Sparta, TN, Leon Sommers and wife Lucy of Livingston, TN, Mark Sommers and wife Janice of Rocksprings, TN, Mary and husband Paul Yoder of Liberia, Africa, Miriam and husband Samuel Wanner of Sparta, TN, Jason Sommers and wife Delores of Lynchburg, TN, Simon Sommers and wife Katie of Mercer, KY, Jonathan Sommers and wife Bethany of Mercer, KY, Susan and husband David Sensenig of Mercer, KY, Paul Sommers and wife Kayleen of Unionville, MO and Levi Sommers of Covington, TX.

He was preceded in death by 1 infant son, his father Seth Sommers, his father-in-law Jerry Ulrich and his brother-in-law Jerry Williams.

He patiently endured many health trials including a major brain tumor surgery in 1996. Never one to complain about his seemingly unfair share of health issues, he often sang thru the most difficult moments and steadfastly trusted God to provide for the needs and cares of life.

He passionately served his family and loved spending quality time with them, often singing and always caring about the little things of life. As a vocation he was a self employed carpenter and produce farmer.

He will be greatly missed by his wife, family and all of his friends and leaves a hole that no one else can fill.

The family is deeply grateful to everyone for your prayers, sympathy and support during this most difficult time. The family also wishes to extend sincere thanks to the local church family for their presence, prayers and food during the last few days.

Stahl, John D., went to be with the Lord on Dec. 26, 2017. He was born in Juniata County, Pa., on June 10, 1939, to Dewey and Mary Brubaker Stahl but grew up and lived in Harrisonburg most of his life.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Susan Leaman; three children, Timothy Stahl (Belinda) of Hagerstown, Md., Aletha Stahl (Neal Baker) of Richmond, Ind., and Theodore Stahl of Dayton, Va.; three grandchildren, Audrey and Benjamin Stahl, and Luc Baker-Stahl; five god-grandchildren, Basil Jr., Joshua, Elizabeth and Rachel Marin, and Ian Von Borstel. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Omar and Milo Stahl and his sister, Sara Kreider; and has two living siblings, Anna Stahl Leakey and Jacob Stahl.

John earned a B.S. in chemistry and mathematics from Eastern Mennonite University, an M.A. in chemistry from Virginia Polytechnic Institute, a Ph.D. in education from The University of Michigan, and an M.A. in Religion from Eastern Mennonite Seminary. He spent much of his career with EMU as an instructor and administrator, serving as director of institutional research and as director of business affairs. Later, he trained staff in colleges around the U.S. for computer management information systems and worked as a pastor at Immanuel Mennonite Church.

In addition to work-related manuals, John published a book of childhood stories (“Metamorphosis: Johnny Meets John”) and one on science and the Genesis creation story (“Scripture and Cosmos Reconciled”). He contributed his time to several local organizations, including as president of the boards of Hope Builders and Roberta Webb Child Care Center. He also often taught Sunday school at Park View Mennonite Church, where he was a founding member, and, after retiring, provided rides and support in many forms to neighbors and friends.

John was fascinated with the natural world and built telescopes, carved and sketched birds, added solar panels to his home, and constructed a rain garden and greenhouses. With his wife and church friends, he traveled to Jamaica, Belize, Kenya and Tanzania, where he enjoyed meeting people and photographing wildlife.

John donated his body for medical research. At his request, memorial donations can be made to New Song Anabaptist Fellowship, P.O. Box 163, Harrisonburg, VA 22803.

A service celebrating his life will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018, at Park View Mennonite Church.

Stamm, Roger L., 71, of Stryker, Williams Co., OH died February 27, 2018 at the same place. He was born June 26, 1946 at Wauseon, Fulton Co., OH to Walter and Martha (Eicher) Stamm. He was married to Jeannie Stitt, who survives.

Surviving are children, Shan (Chad) Henline; Sherri (Pete) Mazzoni; and Shawn Stamm; seven grandchildren, and siblings, Edward (Karen) Stamm; Dale (leslie) Stamm; Pat Bondi; and Karen (Ross) Wyse.

Memorial services were held March 3, 2018 at Lockport Mennonite Church, Stryker, OH with burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Stauffer, Catherine, 96, of 1238 Division Hwy., Ephrata, died Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Wellspan Ephrata Community Hospital. Born in West Earl Twp., she was the daughter of the late Eli S. and Mary (Brubacher) Stauffer. Catherine last served as a school teacher and was a member of Centerville Mennonite Church.

Surviving are two siblings: Eli married to Ruth Stauffer, Narvon and Mary married to Horace Stauffer, Ephrata and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by eight siblings: Emma Zimmerman, Elizabeth Sensenig, Lydia Bowman, Susie married to Norman Stauffer, Daniel Stauffer, Aaron Stauffer, Amos Stauffer, and Phares Stauffer.

Her funeral will be held on Monday, March 26, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Centerville Mennonite Church with Bishop Harold Good, Bishop Wilmer Weaver, Wilmer Burkholder, Brenden Weaver and Mervin Burkholder officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery. A viewing will be held at the church on Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. Kindly omit flowers. The Eckenroth Home for Funerals, Terre hill is in charge of arrangements.

Stauffer, Edwin S., 84, of Ephrata, passed away on Tuesday, July 3, 2018, at home.

He was born in Snyder County to the late Levi and Stella (Stahl) Stauffer and was the husband of Esther S. (Sensenig) Stauffer with whom he shared 59 years of marriage.

He was a member of Martindale Mennonite Church.

Edwin was a truck driver for Hamilton Equipment for 49 years before retiring in 2004. He enjoyed tending to his garden and yard, as well as tinkering. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Edwin is survived by 4 sons, Steven T. Stauffer of Ephrata, Edwin D., husband of Sarah (Quigg) Stauffer of Ephrata, Ronald L. Stauffer of Denver, Dennis R., husband of Heidi (Ebersole) Stauffer of Ephrata; 2 granddaughters, Brittany and Sophia Stauffer; a great-grandson, Vandon Davies; 5 brothers, Joseph Stauffer of Ephrata, Levi Stauffer of Long Island, NY, Clayton, husband of Cindy Stauffer of Livepool, Mark, husband of Carla Stauffer of Laurys Station, Robert, husband of Karen Stauffer of Freeburg; 2 sisters, Mary Clark of Laurys Station, Arlene, wife of Myron Steffen of McClure and a sister-in-law, Violet Stauffer of Selingsgrove.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Harold and Tim Stauffer and a sister, Betty Umstead.

A viewing will be held on Sunday, July 8, 2018, from 5 to 8 PM, at the Stradling Funeral Home, 201 Church Avenue, Ephrata. An additional viewing will be held on Monday, July 9, 2018, from 9 to 10 AM at the Martindale Mennonite Church, 171 Hurst Road, Ephrata, followed by funeral services at 10:00 AM with Pastors Eugene Weaver and Luke Weaver officiating. Interment will take place in the Stauffer Mennonite Cemetery.

Stauffer, Eli Hursh, 79 years, 1 month and 24 days, of Barnett, Missouri, died Tuesday, April 24, 2018. He was born February 28, 1939 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Willis W. and Anna Mary (Hursh) Stauffer.

He married Martha Hurst Brubacher, who survives him of the home, on November 10, 1960 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

Eli attended Hopewell Mennonite Church near Barnett. He was an employee of Fasco Industries in Eldon, Missouri for twenty-one years and he owned and operated an electric motor repair shop.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by seven children, Lester Stauffer of Barnett, Missouri, Leonard Stauffer and wife Katherine of Barnett, Missouri, Allen Stauffer and wife Mary of Shiloh, Ohio, Eli Stauffer, Jr. and wife Jane of Barnett, Missouri, Leon Stauffer and wife Alma of Barnett, Missouri, Kathrine Stauffer of Barnett, Missouri and Martha Sauder and husband Jonathan of Barnett, Missouri; fifty-one grandchildren; thirty-six great-grandchildren; seven siblings, Elizabeth Burkholder of New York, Willis Stauffer and wife Ida of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Amos Stauffer and wife Lizzie of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Anna Weaver of Versailles, Missouri, Mable Nolt of Spencer, Tennessee, Hettie Finney and husband Don of Lancaster, Pennsylvania and Henry Stauffer and wife Eva of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; a brother-in-law, Reuben Zimmerman and wife Emma of Barnett, Missouri and a host of other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Vera Zimmerman and a daughter-in-law, Irene Stauffer.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 30, 2018 at 8:45 a.m. in the family home and 9:30 a.m. in the Hopewell Mennonite Church with Daniel Newswanger, Raymond Stauffer, Leonard Martin and Harry Leinbach officiating. Pallbearers will be Marvin Stauffer, Lavon Stauffer, David Lee Stauffer, Michael Stauffer, Glen Stauffer and Noah Stauffer. Interment will be in the Hopewell Mennonite Cemetery.

Stauffer, Ellen G. Auker, 59, of Port Trevorton, died on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2018, at her home. She was the wife of Daniel B. Stauffer who survives.

She was born Oct. 12, 1959, in Sunbury, a daughter of the late William and Edna M. (Gehman) .

She was a member of Stauffer's Old Order Mennonite Church- Verdilla District.

In addition to her husband, Ellen is survived by her 11 children and their spouses, Noah A. and Jeannie (Weaver) Stauffer of Port Trevorton, Reuben A. and Magnolia (Zimmerman) Stauffer of Mechanicsville, Md., Ezra A. and Elsie (Gehman) Stauffer of Port Trevorton, Orpha (Stauffer) and Amos S. Stauffer of Loveville, Md., Edna A. Stauffer at home, Ruth A. Stauffer at home, Ida A. (Stauffer) and Roland Brubacker of Mount Pleasant Mills, Arlene A. Stauffer at home, Omar A. Stauffer at home, and Matthew A. Funeral services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at the family home with further services at 9 a.m. at Stauffer's Old Order Mennonite Church-Verdilla District, Produce Road, Port Trevorton.
Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

Stauffer, Florence S. Hoover, 56, of 382-A Ranck Church Road, New Holland, died Friday, August 31, 2018 at Lancaster General Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Ephrata she was a daughter of Ivan N. and Esther Z. (Shirk) Hoover of Narvon. She was married 27 years on May 23 to Lloyd N. Stauffer.

Florence was a homemaker and a member of Weaverland Mennonite Church, Groffdale Conference.

Surviving in addition to her husband and parents are five children, Daniel, married to Erma (Fox) Stauffer of East Earl, Vernon, married to Carolyn (Martin) Stauffer of Narvon, Esther, married to Cletus Burkholder of Fleetwood, John Ivan and Ella Mae Stauffer both at home; a grandson; and nine brothers and sisters, Irene, married to David Eberly, Vernon, married to Mary Ella Hoover, Edward, married to Lucy Hoover, Esther, married to Lowell Zimmerman, Mary Hoover, and Miriam Hoover, all of Dundee, NY, Vera, married to Nelson Hoover, Joseph, married to Esther Mae Hoover, and Anna Hoover, all of Narvon.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 5 at 9 am at her late home with further services at 9:30 am at Weaverland Mennonite Church with the Bishop Titus Martin officiating. Stauffer, H. Glenn, 85, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at Landis Homes, Lititz. Born in Manheim, PA, he was the son of the late Benjamin W. and Esther Mae Kreider Stauffer. He was the husband of L. Arlene Good Stauffer with whom he celebrated 64 years of marriage.

Glenn was a devoted husband and loved dearly by his family. He was a strong man of God, hard working farmer and salesman for over 35 years.

He was a skilled quilter and especially enjoyed adding names to his "family tree" quilt.

He was a member of Elizabethtown Mennonite Church and enjoyed singing with the School Boys Quartet.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Dennis, husband of Joanne Stauffer, Myerstown, PA, Glenda, wife of Steve Frederick, New Holland, PA, Crystal, wife of Jay Zimmerman, Schaefferstown, PA and Kenneth, husband of Tammy Stauffer, Elizabethtown, PA, two brothers: Elam Stauffer, Plain City, OH and Elvin Stauffer, Tower City, PA, nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons: Duane and Shannon and a brother, Benjamin and sister, Mildred.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to Glenn's Funeral Service at West Bethany Chapel at Landis Homes, 1001 E. Oregon Road, Lititz, PA on Monday, July 2, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Conrad L. Kanagy officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Stauffer, J. Lester, 96, of Manheim, died peacefully on Friday, June 22, 2018 at the Pleasant View Retirement Community. Born in Lawn, he was the son of the late John K. and Katie Hess Stauffer. Lester was the husband of the late Dorothy K. Hess Keller Stauffer who died in November of 2014; his first wife was the late Dorothy M. Keener Stauffer who died in October of 1994. In his early years Lester was in business with his father operating the J. K. Stauffer and Son Feed Mill in Lawn. Following those early years, Lester was an accountant for several companies in the Lancaster County area, and was a public accountant providing services as the owner of J. Lester Stauffer & Co., Manheim. Following retirement Lester provided transportation to the Amish community throughout Lancaster and surrounding areas. He was a member of the White Oak Church of the Brethren, Manheim.

Surviving are three daughters: Judy wife of Ken Weaver of Lititz, Carol wife of Larry Rohrer of Manheim, Marilyn wife of Mark Zimmerman of Lititz, eight grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren, and two sisters: Marian Shenk of Manheim, and Velma Gingrich of Palmyra. Preceding him in death are two sisters: Alta Hosler and Myrtle White.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Lester's memorial service in the Hoffer Auditorium at Pleasant View Retirement Community, 544 North Penryn Road, Manheim, on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at 6:00 PM. Friends may visit with the family immediately following the memorial service in Hoffer Auditorium on Thursday evening. Interment will be private in Chiques Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Manheim. Stauffer, Willard B., 92, formerly of New Holland and Womelsdorf, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Ephrata Manor. He was the husband of Nora Weaver Horst Stauffer, with whom he celebrated 29 years of marriage in April. He was born in Warwick Township, Lancaster County on January 6, 1926, son of the late Evan and Barbara Bollinger Stauffer. His first wife, Grace Hollinger Stauffer, passed away in 1988.

In addition to his wife, Willard is survived by three sons; Galen E. (Sara Brubaker) of Lititz, Larry W. (Joyce Hartzler) of Womelsdorf, John J. (Lois Hollinger) of Adamstown and one daughter, Phoebe Gehman (Gary) of Newmanstown; 23 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 8 step grandchildren and 3 step great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Dolores (Horst) Stauffer; three sisters-in-law; Lois Hollinger, Ruth Hollinger and Kay Hollinger and many nieces and nephews. When Willard married Nora 29 years ago, he gained another daughter and two sons; Anita Murphy (Kevin) of Sarasota, FL, Elton Horst (Sherlyn) of Leola and Ivan Ray Horst (Doris) of New Holland.

In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Leon L. Stauffer and a sister, Margarite Sauder (Raymond).

Willard was a member of Green Terrace Mennonite Church and attended Groffdale Mennonite Church. He was a farmer in Lancaster and Berks Counties. After retiring from farming, Willard was a self-employed painter and also worked at Oregon Dairy as a dishwasher. He enjoyed playing shuffleboard in Sarasota, FL, where he and Nora visited every winter. He also enjoyed caning chairs.

A viewing will be held on Monday, June 18, 2018, from 6 to 8 pm, at Hammer Creek Mennonite Church, 590 Hammer Creek Road, Lititz. GOSHEN — Kathryn M. Steckly, 93, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018 at Greencroft Healthcare in Goshen.

Kathryn was born on Jan. 28, 1924 in Kalona, Iowa to Enos J. and Amy L. (Hershberger) Steckly.

She is preceded in death by her sister Lois (Steckly ) Miller; a nephew Warren Miller; and two brother-in-laws Marlin Stutzman and Willis Miller.

She is survived by a sister Glennis (Steckly) Stutzman of Wellman, Iowa; and a sister Magdalene (Steckly) and Paul Yoder of Eugene, Oregon. She is also survived by five nephews, six nieces, and 17 great nieces and nephews.

Although her family was scattered across the United States she loved her family, and every moment with them.

Kathryn was a beloved member of Southside Fellowship Mennonite Church, in Elkhart, since 1974 and leaves behind a family in faith that will cherish her memory.

Kathryn worked for a variety of businesses doing bookkeeping and administrative duties in places like Colorado Springs, and Wellman, Iowa.

She was well known to many through her nine years working for Hesston College, Hesston, Kansas. She worked for Menno Travel in Ephrata, Pennyslvania and had especially fond memories of the years she spent in Nairobi, Kenya working for them.

As a girl she dreamed of traveling, and realized that dream as an adult. She ended her career working for Oaklawn in Elkhart, and had fun working part-time in retirement for Dick Lehman Pottery.

Kathryn gave of her time in the Elkhart schools helping children learn to read. She served as a volunteer for God’s Eye Art and valued her friendship with the artist Chad Friesen.

Kathryn loved flowers, and they loved her back. She grew beautiful flowers.

Kathryn also loved people, and they loved her back. She grew beautiful friendships over the many years of her life.

A memorial service celebrating Kathryn’s life will be held on Feb. 10, 2018 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of the Sermon on the Mount, 3003 Benham, Ave, Elkhart. Pastor David Moser will officiate.

Memorials are kindly requested for Mennonite Central Committee or the Greencroft Foundation.

Steinbaecher, Gerald "Jere" P., 77, of Lancaster, Lancaster Co., PA died July 31, 2018 at the same place from cancer. He was born October 25, 1940 to Paul and Josephine (Hahn) Steinbaecher. On August 25, 1962 he was married to Miz E. Good, who survives.

Surviving are children, Shelly R. Vitale (Marshall) and Noelle S. Hobson (Matt); three grandchildren, and three sisters, Mary Ann Martin (Miles); Ruth Wiker (Paul); and Paula Haefner (Leon).

A sister, Kathleen Brokie preceded him in death.

Steiner, Timothy Neil, 49 years, 7 months and 26 days of Dalton, passed away on Sunday morning, January 7, 2018 surrounded by family, at the home of his brother, following a period of declining health.

He was born in Orrville on May 12, 1968 to the late Paul and Bertha (VanPelt) Steiner and attended the County Line Mennonite Church.

He is survived by six brothers and three sisters, Susan (Lloyd) Steiner of Dalton, Charles (Donna) Steiner of Eaton, OH, Rebecca (Tim) Amstutz of Dalton, Marcus (Rhoda) Steiner of Cambridge Springs, PA, Allen (Anna Mary) Steiner of New Paris, James (Mary Ann) Steiner of Smithville, Elmer (Dorothy) Steiner of Dalton, Carl (Crystal) Steiner of Plainview, TX, Rhoda (Mark) Stover of Wellsboro, PA; and many nieces and nephews; three step-brothers and two step-sisters, Marvin (Lorraine) Weaver of Orrville, Merle (Alice) Weaver of Wooster, Marilyn (Barry) Horst of Sauk Center, MN, Miriam (Wilmer) Nolt of Ashland and Milton (Sue) Weaver of Wooster.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Elmer Weaver; a niece; and 2 great nieces.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 15, at 10:00 am at the County Line Mennonite Church with the church ministry officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Stoltzfus, Lynette Clare Harris, 86, of Loveland, CO died May 6, 2018 at the same place. She was born November 29, 1931 at Denver, CO to Staniforth Harris and Helen (Morrison) Harris Ames. On December 27, 1969 at Denver, CO she was married to Floyd Stoltzfus, who was born March 14, 1929 and died April 30, 2013.

Surviving are stepsons, Galen Stoltzfus, and Jim Stoltzfus, six step-grandchildren, eight step-great-grandchildren.

Stoltzfus, Nancy E. Hess, 78, of New Holland, PA peacefully went to be with Jesus on Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at Fairmount Homes of Ephrata. Born in Stevens, PA, she was the daughter of the late Clayton Hess and Ruth Landis Hess. Nancy was the wife of Leon A. Stoltzfus whom she wed on October 25, 1958. They celebrated 59 years of marriage.

Nancy was a member of Ridgeview Mennonite Church where she taught Sunday School and was Director of Christian Education. Nancy also worked for many years as a travel agent and tour escort. She and her husband visited twenty-six countries and all fifty states. One of her favorite travel memories was a trip to South Island, New Zealand.

Nancy loved to spend time with her family, children, and grandchildren. Those left to cherish her memory are her children Lynette Stoltzfus of Luxembourg, Brian Stoltzfus (Jean) of Reading, PA, Dean Stoltzfus (Teri) of Gap, PA, Beth Alderman (Eric) of New Holland, PA, and her nine grandchildren, Nathan, Nicholas, and Jacob Stoltzfus, Elli, Wade, and Cole Stoltzfus, and Zachary, Ethan, and Emily Alderman. Nancy was preceded in death by her grandson Travis Alderman.

Friends are invited to attend the visitation on Sunday, January 7, 2018, from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM, and again on Monday, January 8, 2018, from 10 until 11 AM at Ridgeview Mennonite Church, 3723 Ridge Rd., Gordonville, PA 17529. The Funeral Service will be held at Ridgeview Mennonite on Monday at 11 AM. Interment will be private.

Stoltzfus, Ruth Blough, 103, of Lancaster, Lancaster Co., PA died October 22, 2018 at Lititz, Lancaster Co., PA. She was born March 4, 1915 at Jerome, Somerset, PA to John and Emma Jane (Gashaw) Blough. She was married to John M. Stoltzfus, who is deceased.

Surviving are children, Lois Ferguson and Robert (Chris) Stoltzfus; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren.

A son, Richard (Annelore) Stoltzfus, four brothers, four sisters, and three grandsons preceded her in death.

Ruth was the last surviving charter member of Monterey Mennonite Church, the predecessor of Forest Hills Mennonite Church.

Memorial services were held October 27, 2018 at Forest Hills Mennonite Church, Leola, Lancaster Co., PA with burial in Eby Cemetery, Leola, PA.

Ruth Blough Stoltzfus of Lancaster, PA died Monday, October 22, 2018 at Landis Homes. She was born March 4, 1915 to John and Emma Jane (Gashaw) Blough in Jerome, PA. She attended Boswell High School and graduated from Eastern Mennonite High School, Harrisonburg, VA in 1933. Ruth married John M. Stoltzfus and they had a son Richard married to Annelore, a daughter Lois and a son Robert married to Chris, 6 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Ruth attended evening classes earning an LPN certificate and worked in nursing homes in Akron and Lancaster. She was active in Child Evangelism and went into homes and taught Bible Stories with flannel graph. She was a charter member of Monterey Mennonite Church and Forest Hills Mennonite Church where she taught Sunday School for many years.

Mrs. Stoltzfus and her husband spent many winters in Sarasota, FL and was an associate member of Bay Shore Mennonite Church in Sarasota, FL. She enjoyed reading, putting puzzles together, and spending time with her family.

Preceding her in death was her husband of 50 years, John; her son Richard, 4 brothers, 4 sisters and 3 grandsons.

Ruth was diagnosed with a rare cancer in her ankle at 102 years of age, and developed pneumonia a week before she died. She was a resident at Landis homes in Manheim House where she had excellent care. In her final days Hospice and Community Care assisted with her care.

Family and friends are invited to Funeral Services at Forest Hills Mennonite Church, 100 Quarry Road, Leola, PA 17540 on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at 11:00 AM. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 10-11:00 AM. Burial will be in Eby's Cemetery in Leola. In lieu of flowers donations in her name can be made to the church.

Stuckey, Carol A. Wyse, 76, of West Unity, Williams Co., OH died November 25, 2018 at the same place. She was born June 19, 1942 at Wauseon, Fulton Co., OH to Dan and Marjory (Werder) Wyse. She was married to Paul Stuckey, who survives.

Carol A. (Wyse) Stuckey
June 19, 1942 ~ November 25, 2018

Carol A. Stuckey, 76 years, of West Unity, passed away Sunday, November 25, 2018 in her residence, with her husband at her side. Carol was born June 19, 1942 in Wauseon, Ohio, the daughter of the late Dan and Marjory (Werder) Wyse. She was a 1960 graduate of Stryker High School and then attended Goshen College. She married Paul Stuckey on February 3, 1962 in West Unity, and he survives. A loving wife and mother, Carol took great pride in caring and providing for her family. She was a lifelong member of Lockport Mennonite Church, where she actively served throughout her years. Carol was a 4-H advisor as well as a volunteer at Sauder Village where she shared her quilting talents with those who visited. Carol enjoyed playing cards, especially Bridge. She treasured the time she could spend with her family, following her children, grandchildren and great grandsons in their activities.

Surviving is her husband, Paul of West Unity; three daughters, Pam (Keith) Schroeder of Defiance, Paula (Jeff) Sprow of Ney and Patsy (Kevin) Miller of West Unity; six grandchildren, Layne (Chelsie) Schroeder, Lucas (Taylor) Schroeder, Mary “Carly” Sprow, Emese Sprow, Seth (Emily) Miller and Derek Miller; four great-grandsons, Caden Schroeder, Knox Schroeder, Bud Schroeder and Reed Miller; one brother-in-law, Lowell Beck of Bradford, Illinois; three sisters-in-law, Helen Leu Short and Becky Stuckey, both of Archbold and Dorothy Stuckey of Stryker. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Marilyn Short, Martha Wyse and Marlene Beck; one brother, Roger Wyse.

Visitation for Carol A. Stuckey will be held Monday, November 26, 2018 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 202 North Liberty Street, West Unity. A Celebration of Life Service, will be held, beginning at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 27, 2018 in Lockport Mennonite Church, 9269 County Road 21-N, Stryker, Ohio with Pastor Steve Heatwole and Pastor Allen Rutter officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church. Private graveside services were held prior to her Celebration of Life service in Lockport Cemetery.

Donna Lee Stutzman, 77, of Shipshewana, went to be with Jesus at 10:18 pm, on Saturday, November 24. She was born on May 28, 1941, in Union, MI, to Oscar and Beatrice (Miller) Yoder. On September 3, 1960 in Topeka she married David W. Stutzman; he died March 19, 2012.

Surviving are four daughters, Virginia (Ken) Cowles of Goshen, Beverly (John) Fleischauer of LaGrange, Paula (Ron) Quick of Shipshewana, Lisa (Jim) Taylor of Ligonier; son, Lyle (Corina) Stutzman of Buchanan, MI; 12 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mabel (Ken) Classen of Atmore, AL, Linda (Lowell) Freed of LaGrange; sister-in-law, Joanna (Ernie) Hochstetler of Shipshewana.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; stepmother, Esther Yoder; brother, Craig Yoder.

Donna was a homemaker and a member of Emma Church, where she and David had been custodians for over 11 years. She loved Jesus Christ and her church. She enjoyed going for coffee with her lady friends, reading and loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a bus monitor for Westview schools for two years and worked at Mastercraft for many years.

Visitation will be from 2:00 - 4:00 pm and 6:00 - 8:00 pm on Wednesday, November 28 and for one hour prior to the 10:00 am funeral service on Thursday, November 29 at Emma Church, 1900 South 600 West, Topeka. Services will be conducted by Pastor Gene Hartman. Burial will be in Shore Cemetery, Shipshewana. Memorials may be given to Menno Clinic India.

Stutzman, Lloyd H., age 82, of Nappanee, died at 8:30 p.m., Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Miller’s Merry Manor, Wakarusa. He was born December 22, 1935 in Kosciusko County to Harvey D. and Rosa (Slabaugh) Stutzman. Lloyd was a lifetime area resident. He was a member of the Old Order Amish Church. On November 22, 1956 he married Frieda Schmucker in Elkhart County. Lloyd was a farmer.

He is survived by his wife Frieda Stutzman; sons, LaVern (Lou Ida) Stutzman, Nappanee, Arlen (Louise) Stutzman, Goshen, Gary (Barbara) Stutzman and Paul (Marla) Stutzman, both of Nappanee, Jerry Stutzman, Topeka, Kevin (Mary Jane) Stutzman, Etna Green; daughters, Katharine (Paul) Miller, Nappanee, Kathleen (Steve) Yoder, Etna Green, and Linda (David) Bontrager, Nappanee; 31 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren; brother, Harvey (Bonnie Jean) Stutzman, Jr., Shipshewana; sister, Kathryn (Earl) Yoder, Nappanee; and a brother-in-law, Herman Yoder, Milford. Stutzman, Phyllis May King, 79, of Hesston, Harvey Co., KS died October 17, 2018 at the same place. She was born May 21, 1939 at Harper, KS to Arami and Bertha (Detweiler) King. On April 15, 2006 at Hesston she was married to Doug Stutzman, who survives.

Surviving are children, Douglas Kent and David (Lynda) King Kauffman; one grandchild, and siblings, Virginia (Richard) Ediger, Patricia (Laurel) Miller, and Calvin (Ardis) King.

A brother, Eldon and a sister, Roberta preceded her in death.

Suter, Nelson Elburn, 83, of Harrisonburg, transitioned peacefully to his heavenly home on Thursday, May 17, 2018, at the Sentara RMH Medical Center, after an extended battle with congestive heart failure.

Nelson was born on Aug. 13, 1934, in Harrisonburg and was a son of the late Menno Roudabush and Addie Margaret (Wenger) Suter. As a freshman at Eastern Mennonite College (now EMU), Nelson fell in love with Donna Lee Brunk, a beautiful young sophomore at Eastern Mennonite High School. They were married two years later on June 7, 1955, the day after she graduated from high school.

Nelson is survived by his loving wife, Donna, whom he would have celebrated his 63rd anniversary with on June 7; children, Darrell Suter of Orlando, Fla., Terry Suter of Harrisonburg, Lisa Eggman and husband, Andrew, of Porterville, Calif., and Brenden Suter and wife, Gail, of Dayton; brothers, Jerrel Suter and wife, Lorene, of Stuarts Draft, Everett Suter and wife, Evelyn, Gary Suter, both of Harrisonburg, and John Robert Suter of Santa Rosa, Calif.; a sister, Betty Wenger and husband, David, of Maitland, Fla.; sister-in-law, Vicki Nishimura and husband, Tosh, of Van Nuys, Calif.; 10 precious grandchildren, Corey Suter and wife, Allison, Shawn Suter, Bethany Suter, Tara Suter, Brett Suter, Robin Joy Suter, Rachel Jordan and husband, Jeremiah, Rebecca Wenger and husband, Ryan, Jesse Eggman and wife, Sara, Aaron Eggman and wife, Sally, and Jeremy Eggman; six adorable great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Caleb Suter, Makai and Amelia Joy Eggman, Amara Jordan and Yelanna Wenger. In addition to his parents, Nelson was preceded in death by a brother, Mark Cecil, and a 4-year-old son, Brent Neal.

Mr. Suter was a member of Gospel Hill Mennonite Church in Fulks Run, where he served the Lord faithfully for many years. He loved Jesus and his family with all his heart and set a great Christian example of hospitality and generosity. He also served by supporting his children and grandchildren who have become full-time missionaries. Nelson was a man with a gentle spirit and bright blue eyes that sparkled when he spoke, especially about his wife and family. He was a quiet man and a good listener who inspired trust. Nelson and Donna genuinely enjoyed hosting family and friends, including international students. He also savored the hours he spent assembling puzzles and shelling black walnuts. Nelson was an avid hunter along with good friends Bill Wenger and Pete Kiser.

Nelson and Donna valued the monthly Praise Fellowship group that often met in their home to worship, share and pray. For many years, he met weekly with his treasured friend Jerry Fawley for breakfast and prayer. Nelson was a member of the West Rockingham Ruritan Club was also a member of the TOPS (Take off Pounds Sensibly) organization that met weekly and was chosen as Man of the Year (2017) of the local chapter.

Many will remember Nelson as the proficient repairman who serviced their air conditioning and heating systems. He worked at and was part-owner of Excel Steel, a family business in Harrisonburg, until his retirement after 55 years. Nelson and Donna made their home at the Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community (VMRC), where they have been admired and loved by staff and neighbors.

The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff of Oak Lea, Sentara RMH Palliative Care, hospice staff and the chaplains for their compassionate care.

Those wishing to visit the funeral home may begin to do so on Tuesday at 9 a.m.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 23, 2018, at Gospel Hill Mennonite Church at 11 a.m. Burial at Weavers Cemetery will be held privately.

There will also be a memorial service held at Strite Auditorium of VMRC on Thursday, May 24, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. with Chaplain Steven Landis officiating.

GOSHEN - Agnes Ilene Swartz, 77, of Goshen, formerly of AuGres, Michigan, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2018.

She was born Aug. 4, 1940, to Levi and Laura Swartz.

She is survived by three sisters and two brothers, Naomi (John, deceased) Jantzi, Leona (Glen) Lyons, Eunice (Nelson) Good, Olen (Elaine) Swartz and Gerald (Diane) Swartz; and Carol Hill, her loyal and loving friend of Greencroft.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, in the Gathering Place at Evergreen on Goshen Greencroft campus and from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23 at Riverside Mennonite Church, AuGres, where an 11 a.m., Saturday funeral service will be conducted.

Burial will follow in Sims-Whitney Cemetery, AuGres.

Margaret Swartz

Margaret Swartz, 83, a resident of the Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community, died on February 8, 2018. She is remembered with love and respect by Herbert, her husband and companion of 61 years; four children, Heather Gaylord and husband John, Beth Benner and husband Milon, Patricia Whitelow, and David Swartz; along with five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Herb and Margaret, with their four children, worked with Palestinian refugees for three years in Jerusalem, Jordan under the Mennonite Central Committee.

Margaret grew up in Hyderabad, South India, the daughter of missionaries John and Anna Penner. She is remembered by family, friends and all those whom she served for her generosity, heartfelt affection and skill as an I.V. nurse.

In her retirement she was active as a volunteer in the lab at the HR Free Clinic and in the Heart and Vascular Unit at RMH.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday March 3, 2018 at 10:30 AM at Park View Mennonite Church.

Swartzendruber, Kathryn Ann Bontrager, 86, of Ashley, MI died January 1, 2018 at Mishawaka, St. Joseph Co., IN. She was born September 15, 1931 at Ashley to Ottis and Mayme (Conrad) Bontrager. On February 25, 1951 at Ashley she was married to John Swartzendruber, who survives.

Surviving are daughters, Karen Braden and Shari Durkin, both of Elkhart and Audrey (James) Almdale of Uniondale; a son, John B. (Barbara) Swartzendruber of Elkhart; ten grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mary Jennings of Idaho.

Two infant brothers, Wallace and Dewayne, and a grandson, Ronald Braden preceded her in death.

Kathryn was in charge of Goshen College telephone switchboard for 12 years, retiring in 1990, where she befriended and mentored international students. She was a member of College Mennonite Church and volunteered in many capacities, including church positions (where she was one of the first female Elders), WMSC national board, Mennonite Disaster Service, Gideon’s International Auxiliary, Habitat for Humanity of Elkhart County, and Oaklawn Auxiliary.

Kathryn was a devoted homemaker with many hobbies and interests, including all types of gardening, cooking, quilting, travelling, hosting friends and family, and Bible study. She enjoyed spending winters with her husband at Sunnybreeze Christian Fellowship in Arcadia, Florida. She was a lifelong lover of music, and passed that along to her children and grandchildren.

Memorial services were held January 8, 2018 at College Mennonite Chruch, Goshen, Elkhart Co., IN with burial in Frame Cemetery, Elkhart, Elkhart Co., IN.

Elkhart - Kathryn Ann Swartzendruber, 86, Elkhart, died peacefully on the morning of Jan. 1, 2018, at Sprenger Health Care in Mishawaka.

She was born Sept. 15, 1931 in Ashley, Michigan to Ottis and Mayme (Conrad) Bontrager.

On Feb. 25, 1951, she married John D. Swartzendruber in Ashley Michigan.

Survivors include her husband of 66 years; three daughters, Karen Braden and Shari Durkin, both of Elkhart and Audrey (James) Almdale, Uniondale; a son, John B. (Barbara) Swartzendruber, Elkhart; her sister Mary Jennings, Idaho; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given to College Mennonite Church Jubilee Fund, Gideon’s International or Elkhart County Habitat for Humanity.

Swartzendruber, Mary A. Aschliman
Jan. 1, 1918 - March 5, 2018

GOSHEN - Mary A. Swartzendruber, 100, passed away peacefully Monday, March 5, 2018, at The Gables (Greencroft) after a short illness.

She was born, Jan. 1, 1918, in Cecil, Ohio, to Samuel and Anna (Plank) Aschliman and was the fourth child among 11 siblings.

The family moved several times and it was in Pigeon, Michigan, that she met Edward G. Swartzendruber and they wed April 2, 1939.

Daughter Kay was born in Pigeon and the family then moved to a farm southeast of Goshen, where son Douglas was born.

Mary is survived by Kay Montgomery of Palm Springs, California and Douglas E. (Rhonda Willems) Swartzendruber of Westminster, Colorado; four grandchildren, Anna Montgomery, Douglas, Nick and Rachel Swartzendruber; four great-grandchildren, Silas, Noelle, Elias and Isabelle; brothers John Aschliman of Goshen and Dale (Pat) Aschliman of Sarasota, Florida; and sisters Anna Belle Emmert of Goshen, Betty Lambright of Venice, Florida and Carolyn (Jim) Stephens of Venice, Florida.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers Ervin and Walter “Archie” Aschliman; and sisters Ada Heller, Rose Grime and Dorothy Anklam.

As a long-time resident of New Paris and Goshen, Mary and Ed were involved in numerous family and community activities including establishing Edwamar (for Edward and Mary) Farms, south of Goshen.

They were generous supporters of individuals, College Mennonite church, Goshen College, especially the music program and facilities and a variety of additional charitable organizations.

Mary was a life long homemaker.

She was a highly skilled seamstress; a talented cook with a special gift for preparing large meals for many people; an accomplished crocheter, making prayer shawls for College Mennonite Church and baby hats for Goshen Hospital; a community and church volunteer; and a talented singer and a member of Saint John Singers, Middesingers and Lyric Choir.

She was particularly gifted with a keen memory for names, faces and events.

She was pleased to earn her GED as an adult since she had to drop out of school at a young age.

She loved to travel and visited many places in the U.S. including Hawaii and Alaska, the Caribbean, cities in Europe, China and New Zealand.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 9, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home where a memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 10.

Pastor Phil Waite will officiate.

A private burial in Violett Cemetery will precede the memorial service.

Memorial contributions may be given to Ed and Mary Swartzendruber Music Scholarship Fund at Goshen College.

Sweigart, Arlene, 95, of West Willow Rest Home, in Willow Street, PA died August 18, 2018.

Born in Caernarvon Twp., Lancaster County, she was the daughter of the late Adam G. and Lydia G. (Shirk) Sweigart.

Arlene was a member of the New Holland Mennonite Church. She had been employed as a housekeeper for Dr. and Mrs. James Argiers for many years.

Arlene was preceded in death by six brothers and six sisters.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 23, at 2:00 P.M. at Fairmount Homes, Farm Crest Chapel, 333 Wheat Ridge Drive, Ephrata, PA. Friends may call at Farm Crest Chapel on Thursday from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the service. Family members will be officiating the service. Interment in the Groffdale Brick Mennonite Cemetery. Sweigart, Cora Sauder, 107, formerly of Morgantown, PA passed away on Monday, Jan. 22 in Kenton, OH at the home of her son, Paul Sweigart, with whom she resided.

Born in Caernarvon Twp. in Lancaster County on December 25, 1910, she was the daughter of the late Eaby and Ida Martin Sauder. She was predeceased by her husband, Samuel S. Sweigart, in 1997 and a daughter, Anna Shirk, in 2002. She was the last of her immediate family consisting of a brother, Alvin Sauder, and three sisters; Elizabeth Martin, Grace Eberly, and Ida Brubaker.

Surviving are 4 sons; Amos (Alta Wenger) of Xenia, IL, Alvin of Morgantown, PA, Paul (Carolyn Keeney) of Kenton OH, Charles (Sarah Rudolph) of Roaring Spring, PA, 3 daughters; Sarah Smith (Daniel) of Morgantown, PA, Esther of Jamestown, MO, Mary Weiler (Dale) of East Earl, PA, and a son-in-law, Carl Shirk (Sharon Lantz) of Lancaster, PA. There are 25 grandchildren and 78 great-grandchildren.

There will be a viewing on Friday evening, January 26 from 5-8 PM at Honey Brook Mennonite Church where she was a member. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 27 at 10 AM at Honey Brook Mennonite Church, 678 Reservoir Rd.; Harold Good, Wilmer Weaver, Elmer Martin, Nathan Sweigart, and Duane Martin will be officiating.
